I thought It would be a good idea to see where I have come in these 3 years.
As you can see there has been a dramitic improvement over the past 3 years in design and development.
Even though these competitors are very high in the ‘food chain’ they are still competitors i have been looking at and have reviewed in my competitors report. They are:
Temple Run is a 2011 endless running video game developed and published by the Raleigh-based Imangi Studios. It is produced, designed and programmed by husband and wife team Keith Shepherd and Natalia Luckyanova, and with art by Kiril Tchangov. The game was initially released for iOS devices, and later ported to Android systems and Windows Phone 8.
In Temple Run, the player controls an explorer who, having stolen a treasure from a temple, is chased by “demonic monkeys” who want to eat him/her. As the game is an endless running game, there is no end to the temple; therefore, the player plays until the character falls off the temple to his/her demise or is eaten by the crazed monkeys.
Temple Run – 170+ million
Temple Run 2 – 6 million in it’s first 24 hours and 20+ million in the first week
IGN – Temple Run is a fast and frenzied iPhone experience. The combination of swiping and tilt controls gives each session a frantic feeling. Right now the package feels a little basic and derivative, but still quite fun. Gamers craving a new iOS time waster should give Temple Run a long look. 7.5 out of 10
With my experience in playing this game, I can confirm this game is very fun. The game is pretty basic but very effective and quite addictive. It makes you want to beat your own high score again, and again and again. The game as add-ons which you can buy out of the coins you make on the game or out of your own real money. This game is very good for it’s simplicity and i rate it a 9 out of 10.
Flappy Bird is a 2013 mobile game, developed by Vietnam-based developer Nguyễn Hà Đông (Dong Nguyen) and published by .GEARS Studios, a small, independent game developer also based in Vietnam. The game is a side-scroller where the player controls a bird, attempting to fly between rows of green pipes without coming into contact with them. The developer created the game over several days, using a bird protagonist which he had designed for a cancelled game in 2012.
The game was released on May 24, 2013 but received a sudden rise in popularity in early 2014. It was criticised for its level of difficulty and alleged plagiarism in graphics and game mechanics, while other reviewers found it addictive.
At the end of January 2014, it was the most downloaded free game in the iOS App Store. During this period, its developer claimed that Flappy Bird was earning $50,000 a day from in-app advertisements as well as sales.
IGN – Flappy Bird isn’t a good video game. It’s arguably not even a fun one. But its no-frills approach and exacting, relentlessly repetitious gameplay make it an addictive short-term distraction for the skill and score-obsessed. It’s a bird that sings only one note, and though it sings it well, it does so while flying needlessly low to the ground. 5.4 out of 10
Flappybird is the most addictive and most annoying game on the app store that I have ever played. Down to it’s very simplistic design I can tell that the owner/designer didn’t really put any effort into the design of them game but that has made him millions. The game doesn’t have any add-ons and solely makes it’s money off advertisements. It reminds me of a classic game what I played in secondary school with a helicopter instead of a bird and down to that idea and it’s recent copyright claims that does let it down abit. I score it 6 out of 10.
Angry Birds is a video game franchise created by Finnish computer game developer Rovio Entertainment. Inspired primarily by a sketch of stylised wingless birds, the first game was first released for Apple’s iOS in December 2009. As of October 2010, 12 million copies of the game were purchased from Apple’s App Store, and then the company started to design versions for other touchscreen-based smartphones, including the Android, Symbian and Windows Phone operating systems. It has since expanded to video game consoles and PCs. Angry Birds was copied from Crush The Castle, a free online Flash game that was released eight months before Angry Birds.
With 2 billion downloads across all platforms and including both regular and special editions, the franchise has become the highest downloaded freemium series of games of all time.
IGN – Angry Birds is incredibly addicting, loaded with personality, and is a tremendous value. While it doesn’t exactly stake out new territory – the gameplay formula is part of a trend on the App Store right now – it’s still a great deal of fun. 8 out of 10
I have played Angry Birds maybe 1 or 2 times and it’s never really appealed to me which is probably right because I wont be in their target market. But from what I have heard it is very addictive like most games on the App Store but even with its add-ons that you can buy, Angry Birds is the only one out of this competitors review that you have to pay for. Since I don’t really play the game but have heard good things about it i’m going to give it a 6 out of 10.
